It’s Masturbation May, AKA International Masturbation Month, everyone! Never heard of it? That’s probably because it is not one of the more famous holidays to mark our calendars.

A little history lesson for you. May 7, 1995 was the first-ever Masturbation Day. This was in response to the firing of Surgeon General Joycelyn Elders for suggesting masturbation be included in sex education curriculum (OMG the scandal!). Today, Masturbation Day encompasses the entire month of May! So in celebration, this month I’m going to expand on this important topic.

So, in the spirit of claiming and fully inhabiting your pleasure, I hereby offer you five ways to celebrate Masturbation May in 2022.

1. Use this month as an excuse to celebrate daily. LA Weekly breaks this down and offers ideas as well.

–  Make Me Moan Monday

– Twat Tickling Tuesday

– Wet Dream Wednesday

– Thumb-Fucking Thursday

– Full-Frontal Fridays

– Sit-on-it Saturday

– Someone Get Me Some Gatorade Sunday

Of course, take full creative license here. Change it up to Anal Mondays, or Fantasy Friday. Your filthy mind is the limit.

2. Masturbate organically. Up your game to include not only body-safe, non-toxic toys but also add some eco-friendly to your list of criteria. This can include biolene, glass or stainless steel, paraben-free latex condoms or even porn that is ethnically made. It’s always great to try new things and new textures and being earth friendly makes it even better.

3.  Safely experiment with household items. The key word is Safely. You can refer back to last week’s blog regarding safety and anal penetration. Please resist the urge to put a cucumber up there (anus); however, feel free to use it vaginally.  Also, really it’s not a great idea to make your own toys out of household items as they can harbor bacteria and you want avoid unwittingly exposing yourself to unwanted bacteria or chemicals.

When masturbating, do it right!

4.  Practice Tantric masturbation.  I’m sure most of you have heard of tantric sex.  In short, Tantra is a set of an ancient spiritual practices rooted in Hinduism, Buddhism, and Jain traditions dating back thousands of years. In the West, the term is most often used to describe a sacred, mindful approach to sex and pleasure. Think of Tantric masturbation as a form of meditative self-love. Climaxing is not the goal, as exploration is the entire point. Ultimately, the longer you can explore without reaching orgasm, the more energy you build up. More on techniques and tips for this later this month.

5. Let loose your wildest fantasies.  Enjoy some role play by yourself. You don’t need a partner to play games with or indulge your fantasies with (however, you can always call one of your favorite girls). Only you know what really really turns you on. Maybe you like to be watched or you like to do the watching or that you have multiple partners taking turns pleasing you. Whatever it is, let your mind take you where you want to go.

Let Harlow teach you the right way.

Whether or not you need an excuse to stick your hands down your panties/boxers, remember this: playing with yourself isn’t just fun. An orgasm a day also comes with many undeniable health benefits including better sleep, a stronger immune system, a detox effect, and even a longer lifespan.

So what are you waiting for? Masturbation May awaits your deepest desires.
